One Day As A Lion is a side project for Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine fame. In this venture he is joined by Jon Theodore, former drummer for The Mars Volta.

To get things started Zack and Jon have put together a little five track, self titled EP.

So I guess the question on everyone’s lips is whether this is merely RATM in a new guise? Well, funnily enough, you’d be half right. Zach de la Rocha’s distinctive political rapping remains, heck, the opening line of ‘Wild International’ is classic Rage;

“They say that in war, that truth be the first casualty,
So I dig in selector, I the resurrector”

This is no bad thing. But there are some other influences at play here which make this a worthwhile release. One of these is the subtle experimentation on ‘Ocean View’, as De la Rocha actually sings at times, mixing in well with his more familiar style. The other is the fact that the final track ‘One Day as a Lion’ is bloody good.
