ALEXANDRA OWEN
Alexandra Owen presented a typically minimal collection to a packed-out show early on in the week. Her simply styled, structured outfits of crisp white shirts, brown wool trousers and cinch-waisted skirts were extremely restrained using only a handful of fabrics and even fewer shades of brown among the black and white. This made the collection feel slightly repetitive on the runway despite the interesting and intelligent shapes the materials were crafted into.
As a fan of colour, texture and extraneous detail, I found the thing that most excited me about this show was the use of stockings and gaffer tape to bind up the models legs, making an incredibly effective yet unfortunately unsaleable accessory that brought some real life and excitement to the outfits.
With its equestrian accessories and sharp-edged tailoring, I felt the collection evoked the uptight etiquette of Victorian England, which left me longing to do something rebellious and indulgent after the show. I hit the bar, downed a glass of Moet and wondered how long til A*Muse hits town?
