KAREN WALKER
As the second to last show of ANZFW, Karen Walker presented her Fall 2009 collection, She's Cracked, at Stephen Marr in Newmarket. As always, Karen Walker managed to pull an enormous crowd of doting females and we were packed like sardines into the venue.
The idea behind this collection is resurrected from one of Karen's favourite prints of a broken strand of pearls. Throughout it, we also see a cracked china plate print and a shattered glass print. Beauty is brittle after all.
There is very little black in this collection. Instead, it's full of flame orange, coral and electric blue. Karen Walker is the master of mixing extremes and so we see a fresh melange of boyishness and femininity, class and grunge. There are trench coats, boxy blazers and black motorcycle jackets, cigarette pants, pretty silk dresses and sweat-shirting. Quirkiness emerges in the pieces through the breakaway flaps on jersey tops and artful shoulders on the dresses.
Never boring and always so wearable, I'm always going to be an enormous fan of Karen Walker.
