KATE SYLVESTER
The Diamond Dogs show, held offsite in an inner city warehouse, did not disappoint. This time around Sylvester drew on an unusual local source of inspiration – black lipped 1980s Auckland socialite, Judith Baragwanath. Baragwanath regularly garnered gossip column inches as a rich girl from Remuera known for her exploits and punk style – mixing high and low with ease.
In this collection Sylvester too mixed posh aesthetics with a punky attitude, flipping ideas about masculine and feminine. As the show progressed, the models undressed; a pale grey coat opened, and a revealing Chantilly lace bra closed. Stand out pieces included a slick looking green PVC trench coat (hints of PVC were seen throughout the entire collection), the dusky georgette dresses and a camisole for the boys. That said, every single one of the pieces was highly covetable. That’s Kate Sylvester for you – proving, as always, she is one of the diamonds of New Zealand fashion.
