The future seems bright for young Dunedin-based designer Veronica Keucke.
After winning the New Zealand leg of the Mercedes Benz Start-Up Award in 2006, followed by successful showings of her label Keucke at Australian Fashion Week and I-D Dunedin, she is now in her 6th year of designing. Veronica's experience and fresh approach to fashion is evident within her latest collection for Winter 2007 - ‘The Big Bang'. Predicting where fashion is going for the next season is a pulse designers need to keep their finger on, and fittingly Keucke has looked to the future for inspiration. She's taken a huge pot and mixed in the science fiction works of Phillip K. Dick, the Final Frontier, Dr. Who, Constellations and the 60's take on all things Futurama, developing a range that infuses futuristic metallic fabrics with a restrained colour palette of midnight blue, black, white, silver and lavender. Astral prints and the word ‘Bang!' splashed across some of the garments, only highlight that this intergalactic range that pays tribute to the birth of the Universe for an out-of-this-world perspective on Winter 2007. With 13 stockists nationwide, Keucke has pushed all the right buttons to see her label off the ground, and her successful showcase at Air New Zealand Fashion week last year has proven that she has arrived.
