2006 proved to be a successful year for the Keucke label in terms of growth and exposure. What else did you find in the past year most rewarding? Definitely the fashion shows. First there was the Mercedes Start-Up competition show at MOTAT, then ID Dunedin, Australian Fashion Week and NZ Fashion Week. It's the best thing seeing your clothes looking hot on the catwalk so four occasions of that in a year was very exciting!
When did you first become interested in fashion?
When I was 11, I won my Form 1 class speech contest with a speech on fashion. It's always been fashion, since I
can remember.
What was the first pattern you remembered making?
My first dedicated pattern was for this rubber, bug costume thing that I was working on. It had heaps of little panels and I couldn't get my head around the cutting and seam allowance so a friend of mine showed me how to panel, notch and add seams. It was a revelation!

Which other designers do you rate?
I love clever cutting and simplicity. So the likes of Rei Kawabuko (Comme des Garçons) and Yohji Yamamoto really excite me. I respect Marni, Dries Van Noten and Akira for the way they embrace vintage. Jonathan Saunders, Eley Kishimoto, Bernhard Wilhelm and Walter van Beirendonck for spunk and chuckles - and the NZ sisters... Miranda Wellings, Charmaine Reveley, Kristine Crabb, Cybèle and Lonely Hearts Club for working their asses off and keeping
it coming.
What was it about Dr. Who that inspired you?
The deadly plastic aliens return, this time as daffodils; A killer queen, space pirate and a robot parrot cause problems for the doctor; An ambitious computer releases giant maggots in Wales; Blood sucking rocks roam the English countryside... I mean what's not to love? The Tardis? Yes, please! After a lot of hard work and winning the Mercedes Start-Up award you were quoted as saying 'I feel like Popeye after a can of spinach'.
